Dear Diary:
La Guardia Airport, 6:35 p.m. A sari-clad woman stands with her husband, babbling toddler on one hip, delicately removing her shoes and checking herself for any metallic objects. Satisfied, she places her tray on the belt and walks toward the body scanner.
An alarmed-looking Transportation Security Administration official bounds toward her, stopping the woman before she can enter the machine. The official reaches into the X-ray compartment, past the guard rails and radiation warning signs, and pulls out a small object.
âPUT THAT BACK ON,â she bellows, smiling a little, as she hands the woman her wedding band. âTill death do you part - you ain't dyin'!â
