Video: Street Protests at the United Nations

By SHREEYA SINHA

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the United Nations on Wednesday, chanting slogans and beating drums as President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran gave his final address before the General Assembly.

The pro-democracy rally was organized by the Association of Iranian-Americans in New York and New Jersey and the speakers included former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

Other demonstrations also occurred in an area cordoned off by the police. Slogans in support of the Syrian insurgency were heard as protests against Mr. Ahmadinejad wound down.

Other demonstrations included protests against China by Tibetan groups, protests against Japan over disputed islands in the East China Sea and a rally by members of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement outlawed by China.
