Buried in the news release on Monday morning that yet another Occupy Wall Street protester is suing the Police Department's pepper-spraying deputy inspector, Anthony Bologna, was this heartwarming tidbit: Kaylee Dedrick, Inspector Bologna's co-star in the now-iconic video of him using his canister, is about to have a baby with the fellow protester who came to her aid.
Ms. Dedrick, 26, is expecting a daughter in two weeks with Robert Grodt, 25, said her lawyer, Ronald L. Kuby.
The couple met a year ago today, after Ms. Dedrick, a teacher's assistant with no history of arrests, was sprayed on the sidewalk on East 12th Street. Mr. Grodt, a volunteer medic, took her into a movie theater and treated her in a utility closet. On New Year's Eve, he proposed to her in Zuccotti Park.
âDespite her lawyers' requests,â Mr. Kuby's release reads, âthe couple refuses to name their baby âPepper.'â (Does anyone know of any other Occupy Wall Street babies out there or on the way?)
Oh, and the suit. It was filed in Federal District Court in Manhattan on Monday and variously charges Inspector Bologna, other officers and the city with brutality and failing to render medical assistance. Three other protesters who say they were pepper-sprayed by Inspector Bologna sued in July, and two more people sued him last week over what they said was his role in their arrests.
