To the Polls, Ye Sons of Freedom! And Bring a MetroCard.

By DAVID W. DUNLAP

“Your Pollsite May Have Changed,” said the glossy mailer from the Board of Elections that arrived last week at the homes of nearly 1,200 active registered voters (including this reporter) who live in the West 60s.

Had it ever: to the McBurney Y.M.C.A. at 125 West 14th Street.

That's a distance of 2.6 miles, as opposed to 105 feet to the polling place where I've voted for decades, in the West Side Y.M.C.A. at 5 West 63rd Street. (Yes, I'm spoiled.) And it is not remotely in the 94th Election District, 75th Assembly District (PDF), which runs from Columbus Circle to West 63rd Street, principally east of Broadway.

Sounds like a clerical error.

Valerie Vazquez, the director of communications at the Board of Elections, explained that the McBurney Y appears on a drop-down computer list near the West Side Y and was entered by mistake. In fact, the West Side Y remains the voting site for the 94th Election Dis trict, which includes 15 Central Park West, the Trump International Hotel and Tower, 30 Lincoln Plaza, 1 Harkness Plaza, and the Century Condominium.

Ms. Vazquez said no such mix-ups had been reported in any other election district. She said all 1,188 recipients of the erroneous notice would soon receive a postcard in the mail with the correct address of their polling place.
