The police arrested a traffic enforcement agent on Tuesday night on charges that he raped a woman, the police said.
The woman told investigators that âshe was taken to an apartment and given a substance and that when she woke up the male was on top of her,â a law enforcement official said. âShe did not know where she was.â
The official did not know the age of the victim.
The traffic enforcement agent, Charles Taylor, 25, has been a Police Department employee since 2008. Investigators believe that he first met the woman last Wednesday and that they met again over the weekend at a restaurant near Fulton Street and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, the official said. Later, Mr. Taylor took the woman to an apartment, where the woman drank alcohol and then blacked out, the official said.
Investigators are trying to determine whether Mr. Taylor drugged the woman, the law enfo rcement official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The official said investigators thought that after sexual assaulting the woman, Mr. Taylor drove her to a subway stop, where she boarded a Q train. The woman went to a hospital early Sunday morning and investigators interviewed her there, the official said.
Mr. Taylor works at a traffic enforcement unit in Brooklyn. As of Wednesday afternoon, he had not been arraigned and the identity of his lawyer was not immediately clear. He has been suspended without pay, according to a police news release.
