A 59-year-old woman was killed in the West Village on Monday morning when she was hit by a tractor-trailer while crossing Avenue of the Americas, then dragged two blocks beneath the truck, the authorities said.
The flatbed truck, turning right onto Avenue of the Americas from Houston Street just before 9 a.m., struck the woman with its rear wheel, the police said. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was dragged beneath the truck to Carmine Street.
The truck driver stayed on the scene, the police said; it was not immediately clear if he would be charged with any violations.
