A 31-year-old man was fatally struck on Monday evening by a hit-and-run driver in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the police said. The driver was arrested three blocks away.
The pedestrian, whose identity the police have not released, was struck as he crossed 51st Street at Third Avenue around 7 p.m. Emergency workers rushed the man, who had severe head injuries, to Lutheran Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The police said the driver, Javier Hernandez, 28, of Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, who was driving a black 1995 BMW sedan, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
