When 26 Cents Isn\'t Worth the Trip

By NORA YOOD

Dear Diary:
I was in a heath food store on the Upper East Side reaching for a package of Kashi cereal priced at $4.25 when an older gentleman in a bright red T-shirt appeared and admonished, “Don't buy that; it's cheaper in Fairway.”

When I asked how much it cost there, he said $3.99.

I thanked him for the information but explained that I was in this store already, and the difference was only 26 cents.

He then raised his eyebrows and, with disdain in his voice, said, “Hoo hah, didn't know I was talking to Mrs. Rockefeller.”
