Thank You for Your Service

Dear Diary:

When I signed in at an exhibitor's booth at State Senator Liz Krueger's annual expo for senior citizens, the young woman at the desk noticed my year of birth and asked, “Were you in World War II?”

I answered, “Yes; during World War II I was very proud to wear a U.S. Army uniform for more than three years,” fully expecting the usual response of “Thank you for your service.”

Instead I got, “It must have needed a good dry cleaning.”

Sic transit gloria mundi.
