The last of the sought-after trio of penthouse sponsor units at One Thirty West 12, the wildly popular (and sold-out) luxury condominium conversion at a former residence for nurses on the St. Vincent's Hospital campus, sold for $8,442,899, the most expensive sale of the week according to city records.
Similar to its slightly smaller sister unit, No. 11A, a duplex bought by Rosie O'Donnell, No. 11B is on the 11th and 12th floors and was marketed as a penthouse due to its spacious terrace and proximity to the classic floor-through penthouse with wraparound terraces that occupies the building's actual top floor, the 13th. That 3,800-square-foot trophy penthou se is owned by the fashion mogul Andrew Rosen of Theory.
According to sales listings posted by the building, the buyer of 11B also bought No. 11C, a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath unit with a small terrace, in a separate transaction for $5.75 million, ostensibly for the purpose of combining the units, but that sale has not yet appeared in city records.
The identity of the duplex buyer, a non-boldface-type, was shielded by a limited-liability company, 130 W12 11B. The new owner is definitely not the actress Cameron Diaz, who lost No. 11A to Ms. O'Donnell.
One highlight of 11B, which has five bedrooms and four and a half baths, is the 435-square-foot terrace at the east end of the living room, with its stunning open views of the cityscape. The library, too, faces east; the eat-in kitchen offers northward views of the Empire State Building. The upper floor of the 3,438-square-foot apartment is its private wing, containing f our bedrooms and three baths.
The conversion of the prewar brick building at 130 West 12th Street by Rudin Management had attracted a flurry of buyers and a lengthy waiting list.
The 1941 structure was transformed by Cook + Fox Architects, which did the interior and exterior makeover; the lobby and model apartments were designed by Jed Johnson Associates. The combination of subtle, high-end finishes and a prime West Village address was apparently catnip to buyers willing to cope with less-than-loftlike ceiling heights: the ceilings top out just over eight feet.
The team of Alexa Lambert and Sean Turner of Stribling & Associates coordinated the sales of the sponsor units.
Big Ticket includes closed sales from the previous week, ending Wednesday.
