Man Fatally Shot by Police in Queens

By J. DAVID GOODMAN

A police officer fatally shot a 20-year-old motorist after a stop in Queens early Thursday morning, the authorities said.

The shooting occurred at 5:15 a.m. on the Grand Central Parkway near La Guardia Airport, the Fire Department said. It was not immediately clear why the police had pulled over the car, whether other people were inside, nor what circumstances led to the shooting.

The man was shot in the abdomen and was taken to New York Hospital Queens, the Fire Department said. No one else was injured, fire officials said.

The police said a briefing would be held later in the afternoon.
