This is what the Lexington Ave lines looked like http://t.co/5BP2UKWN

A switch problem at one of New York City's busiest subway stations snarled commutes along the Lexington Avenue line Tuesday morning.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the trouble began around 8:30 a.m. at the 14th Street-Union Square station. Though service resumed around 9:20 a.m., the authority said to expect âextensive delaysâ on No. 4, 5, and 6 trains in both directions. Some downtown No. 5 trains were running on the No. 2 line from 149th Street-Grand Concourse to the Nevins Street station.
What happened with the NYC subway today? It was madness. People clawing at each other for cabs like an episode of Walking Dead. #mta #nyc

Many riders vented on Twitter, alternately cursing the authority, observing that no taxis appeared to be available, and even comparing the No. 6 train unfavorably to the L train.
Some noted the timing of the delays, which arrived one day after the authority presented four proposals to raise subway and bus fares next year.
FYI: Downtown 4/5/6 trains are basically sticking their middle finger up at the world today.
