A Nattily Dressed Jewelry Store Robber Is Caught, but Just on Video

By J. DAVID GOODMAN

“I'll take that one,” the sharp-dressed man in the suit and the brimmed hat seemed to say to a Madison Avenue jewelry-store owner about 10 seconds into a the silent security video above as he pointed to something behind the counter.

But the video, released by police, showed he had no intention of paying.

As a second man, who the police described as an accomplice, entered the shop, the video appeared to show the first man pull a gun from his trousers.

The holdup occurred around 3 p.m. last Friday at Madison Jewelers near 47th Street, the police said. After displaying a black handgun, they said, the man in the suit demanded Rolex watches.

His partner, dressed less fashionably in dragging pants, an untucked shirt, a tie and a baseball cap, stuffed valuables into a duffle bag.

The men fled with roughly $36,000 in goods, the police said, but not before the second man d oused the store owner with pepper spray.

“A gentleman came in, looking at some Rolex watches,” the owner, Joseph Krady, told WNBC shortly after the robbery.

“When I asked him, ‘Which one would you like to take?' he pulled out a gun and said, ‘I'm gonna take them all.'”
